Needlepoint of Djed Pillar from Nefertari's Tomb
8:24am

It all began five years ago with a drawing I did:

Ink pen and colored pencil on acid free paper, 17.8 x 25.3 cm (7 x 10 in.)

I found a pdf of its linear version and printed it to fill the page. Then I put a print out of 18 grid over it and used the underlay to make the pattern. Some adjustments have been made, but it is pretty much that original design:

Excluding hem and hanging casing, it should be 8x11 inches. (20x28 cm).

Some adjustments were using the gold thread for the detail within the djed top...
Also, Djed's armbands are gold, to better contrast with his brown arms...

Note break in stitch direction at the center!

The canvas is 18 grid aida cloth, the yarns are no. 5 DMC yarns. You will need Gold 742, Red 606, Green 943, Dk Green 991, Blue 796, Brown 301 and Gray 413. The background could either be Ecru or Ecru 712. The outlines are all Black 310. Except for the inside of the top part of the Djed, which is the Gold 742. And there's a shadow line on the body of the Djed which is the darker Green 991, as you can see in the above photo.

One skein of each color might be sufficient, except for perhaps two of the gold and 4 or 5 of the background color. Also, there's a five stripe border, from inside out: Navy, Green 943, Gold, Red, and Brown.

I am inexact on the thread requirements, because I've only gotten this far:

If I should need more, I will update the instructions!

Progress on Needlepoint of Djed Pillar
7:00am

There's been some spur of the moment changes:

I added stripes to the base, and dark green specklies to the ground.
The instructions have been updated!
(Also, we'll need more background thread skeins, maybe 5 or 6...)
