"Niccolò di Pietro seems to have had contact with Northern, perhaps Bohemian, painting, and from 1408 was deeply influenced by Gentile da Fabriano and his work in the Palazzo Ducale. The present picture, with its embossed ornament and patterned surface, dates from about 1410."
