A Most Important Message As My Time Draws Near

Laura Darlene Lansberry

April 14, 1939 - July 31, 2002

Friends, lovers, and others who would be friends, and lovers, give me your minds and hearts, just for a moment, and I will return them to you the better for the giving; and you the stronger and wiser, more in charge of your life than, perhaps, you have ever conceived. At long last, I am coming to the end of my days, and, if it is as I perceive, my last days anywhere or anytime, then I have no reason to deceive you, nothing to gain. My only profit, if it can be called that, is that I have sincerely loved life, and sincerely believed in and loved human beings, and I hope to pass on a little of that adoration. I admire our species above all others, believe in our species above all others, and therefore I believe in you, even if you are not yet ready to believe in yourself.

Oh, to be sure, I have not loved the crafty ones, the users, the power mongers, those who would turn our fears and doubts into weapons to control us, to dominate and take from us. I have loved the real human being that is deep down inside, and would have loved you, if you are such a one, with all your baggage, had I been privileged to have your path cross my own.

As I have seen or would have seen deep into each of you, I am richer for that experience. Richer for knowing the goodness, the kindness, the warmth, and the love that is locked behind doors of fear and doubt. Doors created by the lies of the clergy, the church, the self-proclaimed prophets of gods and goddesses that would condemn you as sinners, evil, unwashed, unrepentant and not deserving of the "gentle" love of that viciously condemning man created god. These lies were told to gain power over you, take your money from you, and to otherwise use and abuse you to the advantage of those who claim to serve a higher power. These lies take advantage of the very insecurities that motivate us to be good to one another. Take advantage of our fear of not being thought of as good enough to be loved. It is a vicious and unforgivable abuse of the goodness in us all. We all deserve love, to be appreciated, to have someone who sees that essential goodness and doesn't use it to ill purpose against us.

I know that deep within you already know the lies for what they are. You are not born in sin, you are not sinful, and you are not sinners. Nor do you deserve to pay for the sins, if any, of those who came before you. You are a human being, loving those who love you, trying as much as you are able within your limitations, fears, and doubts, to live a good life, being good to those who are good to you, and not harming those who don't first harm you. Look inside your own mind and you will find a human being you would be proud to call a friend, one you can trust, one who you know to be a genuinely good person. The proof that disperses the lies of the churches and "religious authority" is not in biblical debate, dissension and difference of opinion over externals, it is within. Look not to your pulpiteers, nor to me, nor to others who speak as I do, for truth ... look within. You will discover what I have discovered. You are a fine human animal, a good person, and you deserve to be told how special you are, to be appreciated, and to be loved.

This is my gift to you, and about as metaphysical and spiritual as you will ever find me. Even though I know you not, I can look beyond your fears, and your self-doubt, and see what a wonderful person you truly are, appreciate your value to the world, and to me, and to admire and love each and everyone of you, except for those who have taken up the sword to dominate and control others. Come, live life to the fullest, take the risks to learn who you really are, and from that risk taking you will arise a stronger, better, more able human being in love with life and with one another ... and maybe, if I am lucky, you will love me a little too.
