"Sketching and..."
5:10pm

I've spent New Year's day doing exactly what I've wanted to do. It began with reading more about the goddess Hathor (Hethert), then Julia and I saw the movie "Big Eyes" about the artist whose husband took credit for her work. While I'm glad Margaret Keane finally spoke up for herself, it makes me think about the art world, and fame. How much fame comes simply because someone is able to wheel and deal and bluster their way to the top? Fortunately, Ms. Keane is now able to create freely. Afterwards, we ate at home, the menu featuring mahi-mahi, shoe string beets, black eyed peas and blue corn chips.

In the afternoon, I had only a wee bit of restless boredom, then I picked up a book on Matisse. Seeing his drawings inspired me to draw. At first I grabbed the mirror. But then having seen my features in that mirror, I didn't feel like yet another self portrait. I looked over to one of my "sacred spaces", and thought I'd take a sketch of this scene.

While sketching, I noted the reflection in the area outside the sketch zone. Knowing I wouldn't be able to capture in drawing the reflection of Ma'at feather, I grabbed the camera:

The Ma'at face in the print is facing the feather of Ma'at's statue, and the face of Ma'at statue is facing the reflection of her own feather!
