(From the museum website), text by Margaret Doyle "Although Pissarro had adopted a patterned divisionist technique in the mid-1880s (in response to the innovations of his friend Georges Seurat, with whom he worked closely during those years), Pissarro returned wholeheartedly to his impressionist roots in his later work, as demonstrated by this canvas. Freely applied brushstrokes animate its surface and capture the brilliant light of a summer day."
