The Space Needle used to be the tallest structure west of the Mississippi River, at 605 ft (184 m) high. But in 1996, Las Vegas opened the Stratosphere, which is 544 feet taller. I haven't seen the Stratosphere, but I did visit the Space Needle in 2006.
